IAC’s Match.com Acquires OkCupid

Today, IAC, parent company of Match.com, announced that they have acquired OKCupid for $50million cash. OKCupid is another up and rising free online dating site. The focus on OKCupid is towards the younger crowd using ad revenue to sustain its business. It will be interesting to see how Match.com transforms and takes advantage of OKCupid’s member base.

“OkCupid has been a real innovator in our space, and the dating environment they’ve created has struck a chord with a younger demographic. ” said Greg Blatt, CEO of IAC, in a press release. “We know that many people who start out on advertising-based sites ultimately develop an appetite for the broader feature set and more committed community, which subscription sites like Match.com.”

Is this a match made in heaven? We’ll see.
