I will do a two part series on alternatives to the two most popular dating sites, eharmony and Match.com. To say that both sites are the same is far from the truth.

eHarmony has its staple in being the online dating site for people who are seeking long term relationships. In other words, most people who are members on the site are serious. Two things encourage this. One is the lengthy questionnaire that everyone must go through during registration which may take up to 2-4 hours! The questionnaire is used to match you with other members on the site who are compatible with you. They stand by their success rate and the number of marriages resulted from eHarmony. The other factor is the price. eHarmony is one of the more expensive online dating sites available. People who just want to flirt around would not spend big dough on online dating sites. They would go to sites such as okcupid.com, pof.com, or even Craigslist.

People who are only casually interested in browsing through profiles will not become a member. These two factors significantly deter people who are not serious. What if you want to find an alternative? You tried eHarmony, you like what you see but it just didn’t work out for you. I have listed some alternative online dating sites which are similar to eHarmony.

Chemistry.com

Chemistry.com was founded by Match.com to do exactly this – be an alternative to eHarmony. Match.com wanted to maintain the position in the market as a search based online dating site. Instead of modifying their own site, they created Chemistry.com and developed their own matching algorithm based on “chemistry”. Sound familiar? Similar to eHarmony, it is geared towards people who are looking for serious relationships.

Perfectmatch.com

Perfectmatch.com tries to bring the best of both words of profile matching with search capability. Perfectmatch.com’s Duet Total Compatibility System is based on research by Dr. Pepper Schwartz as eHarmony has its own research. They take this Duet Total Compatibility to match you through personality, lifestyle, values, and preference.
